Vidant Medical Center is a fully accredited, 900+ bed regional referral facility encompassing a Level-1 Trauma Center and extensive inpatient and outpatient services including intensive and intermediate care, pediatrics, bariatrics, obstetrics, and gynecology, surgery, pain management and psychiatry.

Responsibilities

Responsible for ensuring the Stroke Center supports the mission, goals and values of Vidant Medical Center (VMC). Accountable for assuring regulatory requirements for Certified Stroke Center are maintained through clinical competence of staff, policies, and collaboration with key stakeholders across dpeartments within VMC and through networking with other community hospitals for standardization of stroke care. Requires indirect supervision and partnership with nursing and physician leaders to provide continuous quality feedback of program performance.
  • Assures coordination of vision, strategic plan, and operational plan with which to operate the Stroke Center across service lines.
  • Assists with assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of program development for the Stroke Center.
  • Collaborates with Neuroscience Director, stroke center specialist, physicians, and other Vidant Medical center personnel, community organizations, and individuals from the community, as appropriate, to assure coordination of StrokeCenter programs.
  • Accountable for clinical compliance per the Joint Commission regulatory guidelines for Stroke Center certification.
  • Vidant Medical Center liaison at the local, and state level with initiatives through the North Carolina Stroke Association, American Heart Association, etc.
  • Assures development and routine review/revision of stroke center policies and procedures and order set revisions/updates.
  • Accountable for major data registry abstraction and entry to include Get with the guidelines through AHA and the Stroke registry through the NC stroke care collaborative.

Minimum Requirements

  • 4 year college degree required. BSN required. MSN preferred.
  • Three years clinical experience working with Stroke population and or complex medical patients and direct coordination of care.
  • Registered Nurse in state of NC is required.
  • Certified Stroke Nurse or Certified Neuroscience Nurse or must contract to obtain one of these certifications within one year.
  • Will consider ADN if less or equal to at least 5 years of clinical experience working directly with the stroke population and experienced in providing or coordinating educational programs that target improvement strategies for the stroke population within the hospital and/or in the community. Must contract to pursue BSN.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in a hospital setting is required, preferably in a stroke unit.
