Position Summary

The Community Benefit Program Specialist will provide leadership and support to the Vidant Community Benefit Program.This person will participate in conducting Community Health Needs Assessments and will be responsible for ensuring accurate tracking and reporting of community benefit activity to be used for advocacy as well as completion of the IRS Schedule H. The ability to manage data via various software programs is essential as this person will maintain Community Benefit  databases, provide the VP, Presidents and CFO's with analysis and regular reports and will serve as the primary contact for data management for Community Benefit office.


Community Benefit standards

  • Maintains thorough understanding of community benefit requirements and IRS regulations for tax-exempt hospitals. Determines what counts as Community Benefit.

  • Maintains library of up to date national standards and recommendations for documenting community benefit. Serves as resource for staff of all Vidant facilities. Responsible for staff education and training of Community Benefit Program and CBISA software.

  • Travels throughout the region providing education and training on the Community Benefit program and CBISA software for new and existing staff. Sets up new user (coordinators & reporters) accounts in CBISA. Coordinates and leads the VH CBISA user group.

  • Participates in VCG quarterly meetings. Oversees comprehensive data tracking of both financial and in-kind community benefit activity for all Vidant organizations through use of the Community Benefit Inventory for Social Accountability (CBISA) software.

Benefit reporting and budgeting

  • Serves as primary contact to Lyon Software for software upgrades, billing, recommendations for improvements, etc. Ensures that community benefit data tracking is accurate, timely and in accordance with IRS guidelines.

  • Responsible for developing accurate and timely Community Benefit reports and publications for a variety of audiences. Prepares and distributes quarterly reports to Presidents and CFO's.

  • Responsible for timely and accurate completion of Schedule H for each Vidant Health hospital to ensure compliance with IRS regulations. Works with marketing to develop annual community benefit reports used for advocacy and public relations.

  • Performs special projects as required by Vice President. Budgetary responsibility for cost center to include assisting in the formulation of departmental budget, monitoring and controlling budget expenses and recommending specific budget allocations 

Minimum Requirements

  • College Degree (4 yrs) in Business, Healthcare Management, Community Health, Political Science , Communications

  • 3 to 5 years experience in process management, customer service, community non profit, data management.

  • Associates degree and greater than 5 years of experience in large organization may be substituted for required education.
