Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital is a 114-bed, not-for-profit hospital located in Ahoskie, NC. The 15-bed ER serves approximately 21,000 patients per year from the local community and surrounding towns. This modern facility provides a wide range of health services to its 39,000 residents in the four-county area.

Ahoskie, NC is ideally located an hour from the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area and two hours from Raleigh, Richmond, Williamsburg, and the beautiful Outer Banks of NC. Ahoskie offers a moderate cost of living, a strong sense of community, and a temperate climate and location to support a variety of year round outdoor activities, such as boating, kayaking, hunting, fishing, hiking, and golf.

Responsibilities

  • Continually seeks to improve quality of services provided and actively participates in unit-based as well as hospital and/or UHS-based quality initiatives.
  • Demonstrates financial stewardship by carefully and responsibly assisting in the management of the financial well-being of our organization through submission and implementation of cost-saving ideas, avoidance of waste in supply use, adherence to staffing matrixes and effective time management and prioritization.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide services appropriate patient population.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
  • Helps to maintain an orderly and professional environment.
  • Uses department “scripts” to effectively communicate with other departments, patients, families, coworkers and students in person or over the phone.
  • Demonstrate use and application of the RELATE model for communication (every patient, every family, every time).
  • Answer the phone by the third ring in a professional manner, utilizing departmental “scripts”. 
  • Schedule patient appointments, maintains/provides schedules via E.H.R.
  • Demonstrates effective computer skills.
  • Performs patient registration, pre-certification, pre-registrations and insurance verification.
  • Scans/Copies patient information (ie:  registration, transfers, referrals, Medical Record Release etc.). 
  • Maintains paper charts, filing, dictation, forms; admission packets/charts, etc. (i.e., DNR, Advance Directives, Consents,) and distributes information to necessary departments and/or systems.
  • Patient appointment reminders.
  • Communicates and Corresponds with patients insurance for authorization of visits and procedures.
  • Insures POS collections goals are met monthly by providing insurance benefits and collecting payments.
  • Manage collections and performs daily cash reconciliation and deposits; post payments via HealthPay24.
  • Work data quality work queues within 3 working days.
  • Mails Physician notes, etc. to referring providers.
  • Provides clerical duties such as filing, typing, and reports at manager’s discretion.
  • Manage/enter  patient’s charges and completes Charge Reconciliation. Daily; All charges entered by end of shift.
  • Follows hospital and departmental policies.
  • Follows , maintains, supports departmental workflows, policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates safe operation of all equipment in compliance with department policy, safety, infection control and quality control standards.
  • Additional responsibility as preceptor for students and/or new employees as directed by the supervisor.
  • Actively participates on a Staff Action Team of own choosing.
  • Completes daily statistic reports as necessary.
  • Uses universal precautions appropriately and performs proper hand washing between each patient.
  • Orders office supplies via PeopleSoft and OfficeMax.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to on-going growth and self-development by independently seeking learning opportunities throughout employment at RCH .

Minimum Requirements

  • Requires a high school diploma.
  • Associate Degree or 2 years of related experience in a healthcare setting required.
  • Computer experience required. 
  • One year of specifically applicable experience in a hospital, physician’s office, public health agency, insurance company, co-op or internship may be substituted for one year of the required post high school education with a maximum substitution of two years. 

Preferred Requirements

  • Medical office experience preferred.
  • Medical terminology course/education preferred.  

Other Information

  • 1 full-time vacancy, 40 hours per week, days, Monday-Friday
  • Pay range $9.80-$15.68/hr.  Actual rate depends on experience.
  • Resume is required.
