About the Outer Banks Hospital

The Outer Banks Hospital, located in Nags Head, North Carolina, is a full service critical access hospital offering a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services. The hospital opened in March 2002 and is one of the newest hospitals in eastern North Carolina. The hospital's 21 private rooms are designed to meet the needs of our coastal community, whose year-round population of approximately 35,000 swells to about 250,000 in the summer season. The labor and delivery area consists of two labor/delivery/recovery/postpartum rooms, a five-bed nursery, a dedicated caesarean-section operating room and a triage room.



  • Functions as a change agent in support of the clinical information system applications to ensure that it is adequately meeting the end-user needs and seeks to make improvements as needed.

  • Maintain familiarity of all EPIC applications with a focus on clinical applications.

  • Collaborates with leadership to identify, implement and evaluate all informatics education and training needs for new hires, current hospital staff, super users, physicians, physician office staff, and students based on their organizational role.

  • Serves as liaison for Clinical Informatics with hospital teams (clinical and ancillary staff, nurse educator, outcomes managements, physicians, administration, and other project teams as determined.

  • Participates in multidisciplinary committees within TOBH and Vidant Health as assigned and communicates all updates with appropriate leadership and staff.

  • Builds collaborative relationships with medical staff, clinical and ancillary teams to develop and maintain optimal workflow within and between departments.

  • Develops, maintains and supports regular Informatics communication to and from all hospital end users utilizing a variety of tools to include:  email, audiovisual presentations, hard copies, and hospital homepage updates.

  • Ensures timely resolution of day-to-day issues as identified by end-users or system reports.

  • Demonstrates an awareness of self-responsibility and accountability for own professional practice.

  • Demonstrates commitment to providing outstanding customer service, which reflects the hospital's mission, values and customer service standards.

  • Practices collaboratively with colleagues and others members of healthcare team.

  • Willingness to travel for meetings, classes, and/or education services within the system.


Minimum Requirements


Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Allied Health, Information Systems or other related field required.  Evidence of progressive leadership experience.  Project coordination or management experience preferred. 


Minimum of five (5) years broad based clinical services experience.  Experience should demonstrate the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, which include: program management skills including planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation.  Solid knowledge base related to patient care service delivery.  Knowledge of regulatory rules and regulations.  Competent in data collection.  Demonstrates strong computer skills including EPIC, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.  Demonstrates leadership qualities including self-direction, critical and conceptual thinking, excellent communication skills, and problem solving skills.  Demonstrates the ability to facilitate and work with multidisciplinary and system groups.


Other Information

  • This is a full time, 40 hours per week position.

  • Typically this position works Monday through Friday, with occassional weekend calls.

  • This position is eligible for full time benefits.
