The James and Connie Maynard Children's Hospital at Vidant Medical Center offers 197 beds and bassinets and an array of specialized services unequaled in eastern North Carolina. Our patient-and-family-centered care philosophy is more than a mantra; it's the guiding force of our efforts and has been for nearly 30 years. It is expressed in tangible ways throughout our recent 78,000-square-foot expansion.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Child Life Specialist in providing Child Life Programs.
  • Assist with supervision of group sessions, utilizing therapeutic play techniques as a diagnostic and treatment tool, Assistwith interpretation of the child's perception of his diagnosis and treatment as revealed through play both verbal and nonverbal communication, Assist with provision and facilitation of a variety of play and activity forms, which promote selfhealing, self-expression, understanding and mastery.
  • Identification and support of family strengths in the care of the child, Orientation of child and family to the health care environment, Provision of emotional support to child and family.
  • Provision of opportunities to promote continued normal life experiences while in the hospital, Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide service appropriate to the age and development of the patient, Able to identify the structure of family unit, Communicates information gained by working with patient and family to primary Child Life  Specialist and appropriate members of multidiscplinary team
  • Safety
  • Provision of a safe, clean and organized environment with appropriate adult to child ratio for staff and clients during all Child Life activities. Maintenance and monitoring of materials and supplies used by Child Life staff and patients. Utilization of appropriate resources when/if unsafe conditions are evident. Maintains total room awareness, anticipates safety hazards and acts in a preventative way.
  • Documentation - Doumentation according to Child Life Policy.

Minimum Requirements

  • HIgh School plus 1 -2 years of formal training/education is required. Child Life, Child Development or related degree required.
