About the Outer Banks Hospital

The Outer Banks Hospital, located in Nags Head, North Carolina, is a full service critical access hospital offering a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services. The hospital opened in March 2002 and is one of the newest hospitals in eastern North Carolina. The hospital's 21 private rooms are designed to meet the needs of our coastal community, whose year-round population of approximately 35,000 swells to about 250,000 in the summer season. The labor and delivery area consists of two labor/delivery/recovery/postpartum rooms, a five-bed nursery, a dedicated caesarean-section operating room and a triage room.


Position Summary

The Certified Nursing Assistant is responsible for handling administrative tasks and performs diverse duties for nursing department.  Also provides specific basic nursing care to patients, under direct supervision.


  • Orders and maintains supplies as needed for unit function smoothly. 
  • Can promptly and accurately order lab work, radiology procedures, cardiopulmonary, consults and dietary orders utilizing SMS system. Can promptly and accurately transcribe physician orders utilizing SMS systems, MAR and patient charts.
  • Accurately files diagnostic reports (lab, radiology, etc) in medical record. 
  • Maintains unit logs and enters patient charges in timely and accurate manner. 
  • Accurately assembles new charts/chart packs as needed. Breaks down discharge/old charts accurately and in timely fashion.
  • Is aware of standard of practice for profession or specialty and integrates such into daily practice.
  • Maintains orderly and hazard free work area (secretary station, nursing stations, kitchen, lounge, storage areas, hallways).
  • Follow established infection control/stand precautions policies and procedures. 

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, successful completion of Nursing Assistant Course, current certification as CNAI in the state of North Carolina, current listing on the CNAI Registry with the Department of Facility Services.
  • BLS certification is required upon hire.
  • Knowledge of computer and other office equipment required.  Ability to manage numerous projects and set priorities.  Ability to maintain confidentiality. 
  • Previous experience as a Nursing Assistant and a CPR certification.

Other Information

  • This is a PRN, as needed position.  There are no guaranteed hours, hours will be based on the needs of the unit.

  • There are no benefits with this position.
