Vidant Medical Center is a fully accredited, 900+ bed regional referral facility encompassing a Level-1 Trauma Center and extensive inpatient and outpatient services including intensive and intermediate care, pediatrics, bariatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, surgery, pain management and psychiatry.

Responsibilities

  • Collect equipment, carts from user areas. Wipe down pumps, carts and reusable equipment.
  • Process reusable instruments through the washer.
  • Assemble instruments into sets as directed by recipe sheets.
  • Sterilize trays according to hospital policy.
  • Deliver pumps, equipment and carts to user area as requested through SMS system.
  • Utilizing recipe sheets from the SPM system, assemble trays and / or instruments as instructed. Store equipment for reuse.
  • Package item appropriately and sterilize by correct method as recommended by manufacturer.
  • Monitor and maintain adequate levels of inventory (pumps, equipment, carts, supplies, etc.) for patient care.
  • Answer telephone, take messages and fill equipment request.
  • Check and restock isolation carts, emergency carts, latex free, CS shelves and maintain records such as sterilizer logs, emergency carts logs and telephone request equipment pickup logs.
  • Deliver equipment to user area per computer request.
  • Verify delivery, initiate patient charge and file delivery document in appropriate slot. Delivery of trays, instruments and carts to area such as OR, X-ray, L&D, NBN and ED.
  • Maintain assigned work areas and equipment in a clean and organized condition to maintain required standards for handling of sterilized and clean material and equipment.
  • Sterilize instruments, equipment, linen and supplies using various types of autoclaves.
  • Operate sterilizers in prescribed manner and set controls to specified time and temperature according to the type of item being sterilized.
  • Follow up with supervisors on request beyond employee's scope of practice.
  • Assign priority to emergency requisition.
  • Other duties may include but not be limited to - reporting inoperative equipment, assisting with delivery of case carts to OR, retrieval of trays and instruments for surgical procedures, assisting with application of traction under supervision of experienced person.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma.
  • Ability to use PC, operate sterilizers and washers as well as other equipment needed to perform the job.
  • Ability to effectively interact with customers, staff, vendors, physicians, and the general public.
