About the Outer Banks Hospital

Located in the beautiful coastal town of Nags Head, NC. The Outer Banks Hospital offers high-quality care in a compassionate environment—it’s what we’re known for on the Outer Banks.

We opened in March 2002 as a joint venture between Vidant Health and Chesapeake Regional Healthcare. Our facility includes eighteen acute care medical-surgical beds, two labor and delivery/recovery/post-partum beds, a level II nursery bed, a designated caesarian section room, three operating rooms, outpatient and diagnostic services along with a 24-hour emergency department. Affiliated with The Outer Banks Hospital is The Outer Banks Medical Group (a Vidant Medical Group partner) which is comprised of eight physician practices.

As a community hospital, we offer a broad range of inpatient and outpatient services. We meet the health care needs of our coastal community, whose year-round population of 35,000 swells to 250,000 in the summer months.

Position Summary

The scheduler schedules outpatient procedures via phone calls and faxes from physician offices and patients. They must coordinate requests for appointments with computer scheduling system; coordinate procedures when more than one department is involved; monitor and coordinate flow of daily outpatients based on the daily schedule;  and communicate any changes with each outpatient area in the hospital. The scheduler obtains insurance and demographic information and shares with registration staff to facilitate pre-registration of patients. They will coordinate education and appointment reminders with patient prior to scheduled procedure.  The scheduler is cross-trained to perform other functions within the department. Prepares statistical and quality reports for Director as requested.

Minimum Requirements

Education:

High school diploma required, with some college course work in Medical Office Technology preferred, including Medical Terminology. 

 

Experience:

A minimum of 2 years experience in a healthcare environment required; experience working with the public preferred. Excellent computer skills, organizational skills, customer service and telephone etiquette skills needed.

Other Information

This is a PRN position, there are no guaranteed hours. 

Hours are based on the needs of the department.

This position is not eligible for benefits.
