Vidant Medical Center is a fully accredited, 900+ bed regional referral facility encompassing a Level-1 Trauma Center and extensive inpatient and outpatient services including intensive and intermediate care, pediatrics, bariatrics, obstetrics, and gynecology, surgery, pain management and psychiatry.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in quality Improvement (QI) Activities: Participates in problem solving resolution activities and identifies opportunities for improvement to change behavior. Participates in data collection. Employs safe practices, infection control, and fire and disaster regulations. Participates in cost savings activities.
  • Participates in Education: Attends and utilizes staff development programs and educational resources to meet unit objectives and/or individual objectives. Fulfills annual mandatory educational requirements. Orients new staff and students.
  • Follows hospital and unit based policies and procedures: Supports the philosophy of Patient Care Services to provide quality patient care. Maintains familiarity with job description and legal implications of role. Renews NAI and NAII listing cards 2 weeks prior to expiration date.
  • Builds interpersonal relations and communications. Listens to the ideas, opinions, and feelings of others. Gives and receives constructive feedback. Recognizes and intervenes when personal conflicts have the potential to interfere with patient care or team relationships. Works effectively with others in a team environment.
  • Makes unit, department and hospital contributions: Participates in unit goal setting. Assists in cost-effective use of equipment and supplies.
  • Under the supervision of the licensed nurse, assists in providing direct patient care according to job role and scope of practice. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide service appropriate to the age of the patient. Assists in the collection, reporting and documentation of data including vital signs, intake and output, body measurements, and finger stick blood sugars. Documents within the electronic medical record. Performs hygienic and comfort related tasks including baths, personal grooming, oral hygiene, skin care, perineal/catheter care and maintenance of a clean patient environment. Assists the patient with nutritional needs. Assists in providing nasogastric and gastrostomy tube feedings after placement of feeding tube is confirmed by licensed nurse. Assists the patient with elimination. Maintains established gastric suction.
  • Ensures a safe environment for patients including proper use of bed rails, restraints and other equipment. Performs sterile dressing changes to uncomplicated wounds over 48 hours old. Observation and maintenance of oxygen therapy, and assist with triflow and breathing exercises. Assists licensed nurse with tracheal and endotracheal suctioning by bagging and lavaging. Performs trach care on established trachs only. Assists with common tasks or procedures as deemed appropriate by the nurse which frequently reoccurs in the daily care of a patient. Performs duties according to an established sequence of steps, involves little or no modification from one patient care situation to another and may be performed with a predictable outcome. May obtain and process EKGs. May perform venipuncture and obtain blood specimens. Assists in the admission, transport and discharge of patients.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Active NAI listing with the North Carolina Division of Facility Services
  • Active NAII listing with North Carolina Board of Nursing
  • BLS through the American Heart Association¬†

 Preferred Requirements

  • 1+ year NAII experience in acute hospital
  • 1+ year NAII experience in skilled care/nursing home
  • 1+ year NAII experience in nursing home¬†

Other Information

  • Must be able to work nights and rotate as needed.
