Vidant Health offers comprehensive Information Technology (IT) services and infrastructure to support and enable all aspects of organizational operations. Our IT division consists of a state-of-the-art data center located in Greenville, NC. The data center services all information technology needs of Vidant Health facilities. All Vidant Health owned or leased hospitals are on a common IT platform, including our electronic health record (EHR) that uses Epic's suite of applications. Vidant Health has achieved Meaningful Use Stage 2 recognition and is also approaching Stage 7 for HIMSS Analytics’ Electronic Medical Records Adoption Model (EMRAM) recognition.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager of the Unix/Linux/Epic Cache Engineering team, this position will assist in the monitoring, maintenance and support of Epic Cache on Unix/AIX platform for both production and non-production environments.   Activities will include ongoing Epic EMR upgrade projects, and providing technical support for our Epic Cache environment.   Will work within a cross functional IS team in the implementation and ongoing management of Unix/Linux servers, virtualization technologies, enterprise storage, and other technical infrastructure. 


  • Management and ongoing optimization of all Cache environments Data Centers and Co-Location facilities

  • Define, institute and monitor performance standards, reporting metrics, and KPI’s to ensure alignment with service objectives

  • Actively attend training and other learning opportunities in order to remain current with Unix/Linux/Epic technology

  • Maintain and configure Epic scripts and monitoring utilities

  • Promote collaboration and strives to achieve team and organizational goals

  • Backup, restore, and refresh Epic environments

  • Full life cycle support of Unix/Linux OS platforms.   This includes but is not limited to establishing standard builds, patching, upgrades, and decommission tasks for physical and virtual systems

  • Performs installation and ongoing support of technical infrastructure

  • Recommend and document IT standards, technology architecture, policies, procedures, and best practices

  • Provide expert guidance and expertise on disaster recovery and business continuity management for critical infrastructure and server platforms

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred

  • 1-3 plus years of relevant technical experience

  • Certifications in related technologies desired

  • Detail oriented with focus on high quality and customer support

  • Technically strong individual with knowledge of healthcare IT solutions strongly desired

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Experience working in team-oriented, collaborative environment
