Information Services at Vidant Health

Vidant Health offers comprehensive Information Technology (IT) services and infrastructure to support and enable all aspects of organizational operations. Our IT division consists of a state-of-the-art data center located in Greenville, NC. The data center services all information technology needs of Vidant Health facilities. Vidant Health has been recognized as one of the 100 Most Wired healthcare organizations by Hospitals and Health Networks magazine. All Vidant Health owned or leased hospitals are on a common IT platform, including our electronic health record (EHR) that uses Epic's suite of applications. Vidant Health has achieved Meaningful Use Stage 1 recognition and is also approaching Stage 7 for HIMSS Analytics’ Electronic Medical Records Adoption Model (EMRAM) recognition.

Responsibilities

The Business Relationship Management function has the mandate to establish a relationship between IT and the business, and to increase the value realized from IT assets, investments, and capabilities. The Business Relationship Manager (BRM) is responsible for understanding the business, assisting in the prioritization of projects, ensuring that projects align with the technology that provides maximum return on investment, and directing IT strategy in support of the overall business strategy. The BRM is the liaison between IT and the business unit, and a trusted advisor to the business unit. As such, the BRM needs to have significant knowledge in subject matters pertaining to both IT and the business, and must have a thorough understanding of the business to identify its needs and envisage business solutions. The BRM reports to the BRM Manager under the umbrella of the Vidant Health Information Services Program Management Office.
  • Serve as liaison between Information Services and multiple, major business partners.
  • Lead periodic forums to ensure consistent interactions with key business leadership.
  • Provide regular updates on major strategic Information Services projects, business line priorities, business specific issues, and ROI monitoring.
  • Ensure that organizational and business related priorities are clearly and consistently communicated within their area of responsibility.
  • Facilitate resolution of significant business line issues.
  • Strategic Alignment with Business Partners to ensure business value of IT investments
  • Guides the creation and delivery of the ongoing Strategic Information and technology plan for assigned business partners.
  • Define strategic framework for each fiscal year and 3-5 year roadmap.
  • Align and direct IT strategy in support of the overall business strategy.
  • Develop and implement communication processes and tools that drive effective business and technology collaboration.
  • Addresses Business Objectives - Ensures that the strategic information plan is consistent with and supportive of the operational needs and strategic directions of the business.
  • Leads Information Services and business leadership team in actualizing the technology plans across a portfolio, working with them to ensure that technical and resource decisions link to the overall Information Services strategic plan.
  • Functions as intake valve for potential strategic projects requiring IS engagement that meet new and evolving business needs.
  • Leads the business in any decisions that may be impacted by technology and makes recommendations.
  • Leads the analysis to make recommendations that identify financial investment, resource requirements, business benefits, expense, system alternatives and risk assessment.
  • Proactively shares knowledge of technology risks and opportunities to build competitive advantage and improve efficiency and effectiveness of business units.
  • Determines sound investments and enhance its project portfolio by providing analysis; integrally involved in 'buy vs. build' decisions.
  • Conducts an impact analysis, risk analysis and feasibility study to ensure that the business case for future investments traces back to the business strategy.
  • Leads business and technical teams in defining business needs and implementing innovative solutions that meet business objectives or create new business opportunities through the effective use of technology.
  • Provides strategic consulting level support and guidance through key Information Services initiatives.
  • Develops the business case, recommend appropriate methods for achieving solution value, perform requirements elicitation, recommend the solution risk approach, and may facilitate stakeholder agreement and solution sign-off.
  • Participates in vendor selection and negotiation of software and hardware products.
  • Partners and communicates with Client/BRM leadership at the senior leadership level to assist in developing effective project vision, scope, proposals, design, usability, and controls.
  • Support projects throughout the solution development life cycle.
  • Coordinates key project activities.
  • Assists in the creation of project documentation (charter, test plans, requirements definition, etc.) in accordance with established standards.
  • Provides input to project plans, and assists throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Keeps Information Services teams and related stakeholders apprised of necessary information.
  • Assists in the coordination of plans to the various Information Services divisions/departments.
  • Negotiates requirement agreements and commitments by facilitating communication between business unit(s) and
  • Information Services from initial requirements to final implementation.
  • Communicates key decisions, priorities and relevant project information to appropriate levels of staff (senior leaders) regarding business unit requests, projects and initiatives.
  • Assesses available solution technologies and recommend solutions to project team. 

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS Degree in the field of business administration, computer science, finance or information systems or related field is required.
  • Master's Degree in Healthcare, Business or IT related field preferred.
  • Minimum of three to five years related experience in an ambulatory setting is required.
  • Ability to travel as necessary.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in basic computer applications such as Microsoft Office software programs.
  • IT Operations and Lifecycle Management and experience in Process Improvement is preferred.
  • Excellent understanding of the organization's goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the organization's core business processes and operations, along with the strategic use of technology to grow a business.
  • Proven experience with business and technical requirements analyses, elicitation, modeling, verification, and methodology development.
  • Proven experience in IT.
  • Demonstrated project portfolio management skills, including project planning, budgeting, and controlling processes, and valuing IT investments.
  • Understanding of application development and software development life cycle concepts.
  • Ability to understand and communicate/present detailed and advanced business solutions.
  • Ability to communicate up and down the management chain, providing the appropriate level of detail and focus on the right information.

Other Information

  • The Southern Region BRM would reside in one of the following counties: Jones, Duplin, Pender or Onslow.
  • The responsibility of the Southern Region BRM would be to support hospital and ambulatory efforts in this region. The role will be integrated with hospital and clinic operations and will serve as a Point of Contact for the Southern Region to the VH IS organization.
