Vidant Medical Center is a fully accredited, 900+ bed regional referral facility encompassing a Level-1 Trauma Center and extensive inpatient and outpatient services including intensive and intermediate care, pediatrics, bariatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, surgery, pain management and psychiatry.


Oversight of clinical operations, management of inventory control, constant adjustments to meet productivity targets, and rapid review of data to better forecast needed business adjustments. Provides advice and support in the areas of material management, productivity analysis, budget variance and correction, data and revenue cycle analysis, and budget preparation. Provides advice and consultation to the service line's executive team to further enhance a consistent measurement of progress and establish attainable growth targets.

  • Oversee Services' Material Management functions:
  • Direct staff in the daily management of inventory, working closely with the clinical staff to make needed adjustments.  Assure all inventory is maintained to support the department. Closely monitors Pyxis compliance and provides specific data to clinical Manager. Work with the clinical management team to prioritize capital requests.
  • Monitor Expense and Revenue Reports:
  • Review all expense requests and monitor for budget compliance. Monitor daily revenue reports and assess for accuracy. Advise Executive Team and managers of pertinent budget variances and recommendations for correction.
  • Facilitate contract process and renewals:
  • Maintain the department's current contracts listing and annual performance review. Coordinate contract review process.
  • Utilize expertise in quantitative analysis to assist Executives and Administrators with personnel development and efficient strategic business and quality planning needs:
  • Design, develop, and maintain reports that are timely and accurately reflect business and quality performance of the service line. Tracking/Trending: Collaborates with hospital office of Quality. Reviews service line quality records and utilizes critical thinking to develop trending/tracking methods.
  • Manages responsibility for unit based scorecards. Manages 90 day action plans for Vidant Medical Center initiatives to achieve targeted outcomes.
  • Identifies service line needs and creates strategies for service line development based upon Vidant Medical Center Strategic Framework. Works with department leadership to provide expertise in assessing, evaluation and monitoring divisional improvement strategies.
  • Monitor unit staffing targets.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the department FTE renewal process. Monitor bi-weekly productivity reports to ensure inpatient units are working within budgeted targets. Working with the Executive leadership Administrators, Medical Staff Leadership, and department management, assess needs and make recommendations for changes.
  • Assist Executives and Administrators with Budget Preparation:
  • Maintain accurate records of expenses and sub-account performance in order to accurately establish budget targets.  Participate in strategic planning initiatives, developing reliable forecasting models for surgical volume.
  • Develops business and tactical plans for expansion and refinement of existing services.
  • Supports department development by working with leadership in an effort to translate strategic plans into cogent and carefully conceived functionally viable tactical plans.
  • Specific functions:
  • Writes, plans, coordinates meetings.
  • Identifies service needs.
  • Participates in business plan development.
  • Leads tactical plan development.
  • Stays within the mission of Vidant Medical Center.
  • Communicates and disseminates plans when appropriate.
  • Creates and writes job composites.
  • Recruits new staff.
  • Interfaces appropriately with chiefs and chairs.
  • Interfaces appropriately with all elements of Vidant Medical Center administration and staff.
  • Participates as a member of the administrative team for both Vidant Medical Center and the department.
  • Prepares presentations as part of normal business and clinical development.
  • Demonstrates professionalism in all endeavors and interactions.
  • Utilizes the principals of organizational development and service line tactical development.

Minimum Requirements

  •  Four year degree in any field and a MBA, MHA, or MSL degree is required.
  • 1 to 2 years experience working in a healthcare organization on complex projects that require multidisciplinary collaboration.
