Vidant Health offers comprehensive Information Technology (IT) services and infrastructure to support and enable all aspects of organizational operations. Our IT division consists of a state-of-the-art data center located in Greenville, NC. The data center services all information technology needs of Vidant Health facilities. All Vidant Health owned or leased hospitals are on a common IT platform, including our electronic health record (EHR) that uses Epic's suite of applications. Vidant Health has achieved Meaningful Use Stage 2 recognition and is also approaching Stage 7 for HIMSS Analytics’ Electronic Medical Records Adoption Model (EMRAM) recognition.

Position Summary

This position is part of the Enterprise Analytics & Reporting team which supports development of enterprise Business Intelligence applications across Vidant Health. The Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst will work closely with clinical, business and IT teams to turn data into critical information and knowledge that can be used to make sound business decisions. They will partner with the business in a consulting role to help transform business analytical needs into actionable enterprise BI applications. This includes the design, and implementation of dashboards, reports and other various BI applications.

The BI Analyst-III will be responsible for structuring the strategic design and maintenance of business intelligence applications, identify, research, and resolve technical problems. The BI Analyst-III will develop and implement BI solutions that will enable the business to use data as an analytical tool, display the information in new forms for the purpose of analysis, exploration and reporting. This position requires contributing to moderately complex aspects of a project. Key to this role is advancing the Vidant Health BI maturity path by providing the necessary consultation, education, and capabilities in order to meet our corporate and strategic goals.


  • Works on medium-large complexity and cross-functional IT and customer BI solutions. Works with IT, internal, and external customers to analyze and develop reporting needs. Interprets business requirements and determines optimal BI solutions to meet needs.
  • Works on design, development and implementation of Business Intelligence (BI) and analytics systems. Contributes to BI Agile design experience.
  • Creates data models within the BI Semantic Layer (BusinessObjects IDT). Independently develops reports, dashboards and visualizations.
  • Identifies and provides input to new technology opportunities that will have an impact on the enterprise-wide BI system. Provides input to the development of information quality metrics.
  • Participates in the development and execution of BI education series to customers and IT.
  • Demonstrates a wide degree of creativity, innovation & latitude to build appropriate tools to maximize utilization & decision making capabilities.
  • Leads and mentors junior analysts on best practices.
  • Performs in a consulting role to Federated Users across the enterprise to enable and facilitate self-service reporting. Creates Enterprise Business Intelligence applications that can serve all Hospitals & Clinics within the Vidant Health system. Performs data profiling, data analysis and visualization prototypes for Business Intelligence projects across the enterprise. Creates, reviews, and approves the solution requirements, design requirements and testing documentation necessary for implementing technology solutions that meet customer needs, expected delivery dates, and exceptional quality standards. Creates, reviews, and approves the Business Process artifacts (process flow, work state diagrams, etc.) as they pertain to enterprise level processes spanning multiple functional areas.
  • Provides leadership into test cases, clearly communicates testing methodologies to ensure application quality. Coordinates the effort on how decision support systems will provide information required to make effective business decisions, translates requirements into applications that employ appropriate decision support and reporting tools.
  • Uses broad experience and technical knowledge to propose solutions to complex business problems. Resolves any enterprise roadblock to the implementation of the recommended solutions.
  • Identifies and presents issues and risks and their business impact in a timely manner with proposed solutions. Approves implemented process improvements and control documentation for traceability and future reuse.
  • Leads Agile/SCRUM methodologies to manage sprint cycles and ensures releases ship on time and with the highest quality. Oversees the delivery of code that addresses end-user and internal business requirements.
  • Is passionate about data and providing high availability services and reporting. Understands application and clinical workflows.
  • Determines appropriate sources for internal and external data from transaction and data warehouse systems. Performs quality and profiling checks on data so BI solutions are of high quality.

Minimum Requirements

  • Five to seven years related experience
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher

Preferred Requirements

  • Healthcare work experience
  • 5+ years of experience in Business Intelligence & Data Visualization
  • 3+ years of experience in SAP BusinessObjects or equivalent enterprise BI stack (Webi, Crystal Reports, Explorer, Lumira, IDT)
  • 1-3 years of experience in BusinessObjects Universe design Proficient in SAP BusinessObjects Administration using CMC
  • Demonstrated knowledge of BusinessObjects platform architecture, installation & upgrades in both Linux & Windows server platforms
  • 1+ years of experience with implementing full lifecycle BI/DW solutions
  • At least three of the Epic Reporting tools (Reporting Workbench, Radar Dashboards, Slicer Dicer, Epic-BI Integration) Proficient in building Enterprise BI applications with creative Data Visualizations
  • 2+ years of experience developing analytical metrics and measures for business/C-suite level reporting 5+ years of experience querying large relational databases using SQL
  • Proficient in Data Warehouse concepts & Dimensional modeling Working knowledge of ETL tools such as SSIS and Informatica
  • 2+ years of experience in at least two of the following programming languages (Java, C# .Net, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, VBA, RESTful Web Services)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel to develop pivot tables, linking to external datasets & automating with VBA
  • Proven experience in leading medium to large size projects, manage stakeholder expectations and deliver results in-line with established objectives, budges & timelines
  • Experience working in team-oriented, collaborative, agile environment Understanding of HIPAA data Privacy and Security requirements
  • Certification in at least two Epic applications or data models obtained within 1 year of employment.
