Responsibilities

  • Performs preventive and corrective maintenance on boilers and all steam plant equipment.
  • Tune combustion components of boilers to keep them energy efficient, safe and within EPA standards for exhaust into the atmosphere.
  • Performs routine maintenance such as greasing bearings of motors and pumps and cleaning components as necessary.
  • Replaces equipment parts as necessary; prepares boilers for insurance inspections so they will qualify for certification.
  • Maintains accurate records of all maintenance and inspections.
  • Operates boilers and other equipment to meet the demands of the hospital.
  • Operates plant systems start-up and shut-down.
  • Maintains proper steam pressure sufficient to operate equipment throughout the hospital.
  • Responds to warning alarms and determines proper course of action.
  • Maintains steam plant, air conditioning plant, and well water chemistry.
  • Performs chemical treatment of steam plant and air conditioning water systems.
  • Draws samples from boilers, feed tanks, well systems, reheat systems to analyze chemical makeup of water.
  • Determines if water meets specifications and adds chemicals to maintain water within limits.
  • Supervises and trains personnel in all of the duties.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School plus 2 years or more of formal training or education: Technical School for Boilers Or Associate College Degree
  • Substitution for Education:Two years of experience beyond 6 years can substitute for the two year education.
  • 5 to 6 years experience  with boilers, water pumps, exhaust fans, air compressors, air conditioning, cooling towers, mechanical tools and equipment is required.
