Vidant Health offers comprehensive Information Technology (IT) services and infrastructure to support and enable all aspects of organizational operations. Our IT division consists of a state-of-the-art data center located in Greenville, NC. The data center services all information technology needs of Vidant Health facilities. All Vidant Health owned or leased hospitals are on a common IT platform, including our electronic health record (EHR) that uses Epic's suite of applications. Vidant Health has achieved Meaningful Use Stage 2 recognition and is also approaching Stage 7 for HIMSS Analytics’ Electronic Medical Records Adoption Model (EMRAM) recognition.

Position Summary

The primary role for the Ambulatory Information Services Manager of Business Operations and Strategic Innovation is to support the quantitative, analytic, financial and strategic initiatives of the Ambulatory Information Services Department.

The role exists to balance the strategic vision of the organization with effective technology solutions in order to support a seamless and continuous delivery of ambulatory application services for all invested business partners. Furthermore, the Manager of Business Operations and Strategic Initiatives will act as a business liaison with business operational representatives in order to translate business needs and technology solutions into a common language. By understanding the guiding principles of strategic planning, the Manager of Business Operations and Strategic Initiatives will oversee project planning to ensure all current or future plans meets the vision of the ambulatory information services department, the needs of the business and the mission of the health system. In order to support future growth and development of the ambulatory information services enterprise, the manager will act as the key liaison and program manager for the Vidant Community Connect program.


  • Provide financial performance support for the department by utilizing expertise in quantitative analysis to assist clinical manager and division leaders with efficient department management and business planning needs.

  • Assist department manager with monitor time and attendance and overall department productivity in order to identify areas of efficiency and to support cost avoidance.

  • Lead or co-lead the development of consistent and continuous roadmaps for all specialty applications within ambulatory information services.

  • Lead, co-lead, or advise on departmental and division strategic initiatives in order to develop innovative short term, intermediate term and long term strategic plans in addition to acting as the program manager and community liaison for the Vidant Community Connect program.

  • Coordinate priorities across all applicable governance groups in order to assist with establishing department priorities and ensure that all priorities are innovative, adhere to industry best practice and align with the mission, vision and goals of Information Services.

  • Understand the basic principles of information services project management methodology in order to identify ensure that best practice methods are consistently employed, analyze for deficiencies and coordinate with the project manager to ensure the efficient and accurate delivery of technology solution to invested business partners.

  • Collaborate with IS leadership to develop meaningful Service Level Agreements that enhance value to the organizations business units and affiliates.

  • Understand and translate complex business requirements to IS leadership and governance groups in order to support and deliver innovative and efficient IT solutions.

  • Act as a liaison between IS department leadership, IS division leadership and operational financial leadership and personnel to monitor, maintain, analyze and support the annual financial functions of the department up to and including budget maintenance, budget targets and budget forecasting.

  • Provide supervision to departmental staff to include technical analyst and administrative support staff as assigned and/or in coordination with the clinical department manager.

Minimum Requirements

  • ??College degree plus other schooling. Four year degree must be in business, business finance, business administration or health information. Master's Degree in Business, Health Care related field or Health Information.

  • Epic application certification desired. Epicare Ambulatory Certification required within first 1 year of hire date.

  • Finance, business administration, marketing, project management, business and technology innovation experience required.

  • Five or more years of experience in finance, business operations, business finance and marketing, business innovation and technology can be substituted for a Master's Degree in Business, Health Care or Health Information.
